Kitazigurukwa Special Needs Unit

Kitazigurukwa Special Needs Unit is linked to a mainstream, diocesan founded and government run Primary School. The Unit currently caters for almost 40 children with a variety of special needs including cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, mute, downs syndrome and deaf. All children board at the Unit during term time.

The children are in lessons in the mornings and in the afternoons they play and learn basic life skills.

The Unit staff are funded by the Chilli Children Project.

School fees for children with disabilities

The Project currently cover the cost of school fees and provide transport to and from school for about 10 – 15 other children. These include children with physical disabilities at Mengo School in Kampala, and a number of deaf children who are now at Secondary School, or a Vocational School, and blind children at a school in Kabale district. There would be little hope for any of these children attending school without the help they receive from the project.

The Project needs money for:

  • School fees
  • Staff salaries
  • Kitazigurukwa Unit food and laundry essentials
